GYROTONIC®
The GYROTONIC Expansion System® is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion and creating functional strength.
GYROTONIC® exercise sequences are composed of spiralling, circular movements which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions with corresponding breath patterns. Each movement flows into the next allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.
The GYROTONIC® Method utilizes specially designed equipment which supports the body’s natural movement patterns in its ability to arch, spiral and curl. Sophisticated adjustments allow GYROTONIC® Trainers to adapt the equipment to the ideal setting for each person’s unique physique, adapting for things such as height, arm length and leg length, natural range of motion and physical ability.
GYROTONIC® sessions are adapted to fit anyone’s ability from those recovering from injury or living with a disability to elite athletes. In our studio we have 2 GYROTONIC® Pully Towers and a Jumping Stretching board. Sessions are run as either a private or duets (2 people) and are 1 hour long.

History of GYROTONIC®
After this injury he moved to the island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in 1977. There he built a small, one-room hut in the mountains and spent the next six years studying yoga and meditation. During this time he gained new insights into movement and healing, and from these insights he began to create his own unique exercise method. He called this system Yoga for Dancers.” In the beginning, most of Juliu’s students were professional dancers. As demand for his classes grew, and the diversity of his clientele increased, Juliu refined Yoga for Dancers, creating a class format that almost any person could perform, regardless of age or state of health. He named this refined version of Yoga for Dancers the GYROKINESISÒ Method.
Juliu continued to develop and refine what is called today the Gyrotonic Method, and his world-renowned Gyrotonic equipment. The Gyrotonic Expansion System has now grown to encompass over 13,000 Trainers in 84 countries. Juliu continues to create new programming for the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Methods. He also conducts teacher training courses internationally, and continues to develop new Gyrotonic equipment and refine existing equipment designs.
The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM Ò was created by Romanian-born Hungarian Juliu Horvath. He began to study dance when he was 19, and by the time he was 21 was a principal dancer for the Romanian National Ballet Company. While on tour in Italy in 1970, he defected from Romania. After receiving political asylum in the United States, he moved to New York City. During the 1970’s, Juliu danced with the New York City Opera and was a guest artist at Radio City Music Hall where he was a featured performer dancing with international stars such as Margot Fonteyn, Jacques d’ Amboise and Melissa Hayden. While with the Houston Ballet, Juliu ruptured his Achilles tendon, bringing his dancing career to a sudden halt.

I have been practicing Pilates and Gyrotonic with Ingrid Shaw for nearly 7 years, and I highly recommend the beautiful and light filled studio space. Ingrid is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attuned to each student’s individual needs. The quality of the instruction is exceptional, highly skilled and Ingrid genuinely cares about the well-being of each of her students’ personal needs. The classes can be challenging, yet they leave me feeling stronger, centred, and rejuvenated. I appreciate how Ingrid encourages proper form and technique, ensuring that every movement is intentional and effective. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, Ingrid will help each individual progress at their own pace. Thanks to Ingrid I’ve noticed improved posture, increased flexibility, and a significant reduction in many injuries incurred over the years. I cannot recommend Ingrid and her highly trained team enough to anyone looking to improve their health and flexibility.

After 7 operations I had lost confidence in my body. My GP referred me to Ingrid and within 6 months and together with her encouragement and affirmation I re learnt how to use my body. I learnt that every part of my body is interconnected. Her sessions have enabled me to regain my confidence and eliminate much of my pain. I am so grateful to her and her team.

Thanks to Ingrid, I discovered the fabulous Gyrotonic Method after having done Pilates with her for over a decade. It involves stretching and strengthening, and I feel like a new person after each session. Ingrid really understands the way bodies work and my various strengths and weaknesses. She adapts every session to help me stay strong and flexible and to recover from injuries. Ingrid is such a dedicated, caring, experienced and knowledgeable instructor who continually keeps up to date with new ideas and techniques. And Ingrid’s airy and tranquil studio, nestled among the trees, is the ideal place to practice Gyrotonic and Pilates!

I have been a client at Ingrid's studio for over 10 years, the studio is immaculate and a lovely space to work out in. I have always found Ingrid to be extremely knowledgeable and caring as are her other instructors. I do both Pilates and Gyrotonic, love them both though Gyro is my absolute fav! I have had some major issues with my body including a foot reconstruction and a bilateral knee replacement. The care and rehabilitation I have received at Ingrid's studio has been second to none. A couple of years ago I convinced my partner to also attend and now we do a session together. I have also done some of the excellent workshops that have been held in the studio. We have also been away on some incredible walks that Ingrid has organised with other students doing Pilates before and after our long walks. There is great a sense of community which I feel we are all looking for at this time. I can't recommend Ingrid's Studio highly enough.

I have attended this studio for several years now and at the age of 75 I find it a very friendly welcoming space. The instructors are all excellent. They are pleasant, knowledgeable and experienced and are therefore well equipped to address the many specific issues that clients may have. As a result, I like to say that my body has been renovated. My flexibility, strength, coordination, posture and balance have all been greatly improved by doing both Pilates and Gyrotonic there. The studio itself is a lovely airy room on the upper floor of a building set in a park. Always a lovely experience to go there!
