About Us
Ingrid Shaw Pilates aims to help you to reach your exercise goals, rehabilitate as needed and to feel better when you walk out than when you walked in. With vast experience in helping people out of pain and/or freeing people from every day niggles, our caring and highly skilled staff guide people individually through their sessions using either Pilates based exercise or the Gyrotonic Method. Yoga classes are also on offer. We see a broad cross section of the community from all age groups.
We believe that “Movement is medicine”.

Yes, we offer private sessions for students who want a focused, individual practice with their teacher. A private lesson can be invaluable to help you deepen your understanding of your body and how to address your particular needs. It allows for hands on assistance where appropriate to help achieve correct alignment and muscle connection. It allows time to explore your needs and any required modifications for injuries or special populations. We offer both private and semi-private sessions which can be arranged on an individual basis. All first sessions (Initial assessments) are done one on one.
All GYROTONIC sessions are done as private or duet sessions. Pilates can be done privately, in duets or in small groups of 3.Pilates and GYROTONIC are excellent well established forms of rehabilitation. In our individually tailored sessions, we will adjust your exercises to assist in helping your issue as appropriate. In a STUDIO setting the exercises are tailored to meet your needs. All our teachers are trained in and have experience in the rehabilitation of a wide variety of conditions.
In Yoga, because we can modify poses and exercises to suit individuals, we encourage people to participate. You will be taught how to modify around your condition and gain a heightened experience of the mind/body connection - as your body will be giving you clearer signals than most. However, YOU MUST speak to your instructor about your condition prior to starting YOGA, and keep them updated as things progress; and YOU MUST obtain your doctor/physical therapist’s approval before joining in.Wear comfortable work-out clothes, or whatever makes you most comfortable and socks on your feet! Bring a bottle of water with you and a towel. If you are coming to our Yoga classes, please your own mat.
Yes that would be great. Gyrotonic is all done on a private, one on one or duet basis. Find out more and how to book here.
Gyrotonic can be tailored to all needs and abilities, and there are multiple sessions throughout the week. Ingrid will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Gyrotonic uses equipment and is generally done one on one as a private. Gyrokinesis is generally done in a small group, although one can do it individually too. In Gyrokinesis one uses a stool and a mat. Stools and mats are provided, however you can BYO mat if you prefer.
The direction towards mind/body exercise has been a Godsend to our sedentary, stressful culture. All bodies - and their owner’s expectations, are different. They don’t come with specific instructions. We can best learn how to keep them healthy and performing to our expectations by listening to what they tell us, and acting accordingly. When we learn to achieve this connection and give our bodies and minds the care they are asking for, our overall health and quality of life improves. It’s important to acknowledge that in your practice you need to do what your body wants to do, not what your brain thinks it should be able to do.
Ingrid & her team have created an oasis of movement & connection. I have been a client for 5 years practicing both Pilates & Gyrotonic. Ingrid & all the teachers are highly skilled & trained, always pushing us to reach our best & at the same time, extremely kind. What is unique about this studio is not only are the staff delightful but so are the clients! It is a lovely place to be, I cherish my two Gyro sessions, they are always highlights of my week!

I have been practicing Pilates and Gyrotonic with Ingrid Shaw for nearly 7 years, and I highly recommend the beautiful and light filled studio space. Ingrid is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attuned to each student’s individual needs. The quality of the instruction is exceptional, highly skilled and Ingrid genuinely cares about the well-being of each of her students’ personal needs. The classes can be challenging, yet they leave me feeling stronger, centred, and rejuvenated. I appreciate how Ingrid encourages proper form and technique, ensuring that every movement is intentional and effective. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, Ingrid will help each individual progress at their own pace. Thanks to Ingrid I’ve noticed improved posture, increased flexibility, and a significant reduction in many injuries incurred over the years. I cannot recommend Ingrid and her highly trained team enough to anyone looking to improve their health and flexibility.

After 7 operations I had lost confidence in my body. My GP referred me to Ingrid and within 6 months and together with her encouragement and affirmation I re learnt how to use my body. I learnt that every part of my body is interconnected. Her sessions have enabled me to regain my confidence and eliminate much of my pain. I am so grateful to her and her team.

Thanks to Ingrid, I discovered the fabulous Gyrotonic Method after having done Pilates with her for over a decade. It involves stretching and strengthening, and I feel like a new person after each session. Ingrid really understands the way bodies work and my various strengths and weaknesses. She adapts every session to help me stay strong and flexible and to recover from injuries. Ingrid is such a dedicated, caring, experienced and knowledgeable instructor who continually keeps up to date with new ideas and techniques. And Ingrid’s airy and tranquil studio, nestled among the trees, is the ideal place to practice Gyrotonic and Pilates!

I have been a client at Ingrid's studio for over 10 years, the studio is immaculate and a lovely space to work out in. I have always found Ingrid to be extremely knowledgeable and caring as are her other instructors. I do both Pilates and Gyrotonic, love them both though Gyro is my absolute fav! I have had some major issues with my body including a foot reconstruction and a bilateral knee replacement. The care and rehabilitation I have received at Ingrid's studio has been second to none. A couple of years ago I convinced my partner to also attend and now we do a session together. I have also done some of the excellent workshops that have been held in the studio. We have also been away on some incredible walks that Ingrid has organised with other students doing Pilates before and after our long walks. There is great a sense of community which I feel we are all looking for at this time. I can't recommend Ingrid's Studio highly enough.
Sandra
I have attended this studio for several years now and at the age of 75 I find it a very friendly welcoming space. The instructors are all excellent. They are pleasant, knowledgeable and experienced and are therefore well equipped to address the many specific issues that clients may have. As a result, I like to say that my body has been renovated. My flexibility, strength, coordination, posture and balance have all been greatly improved by doing both Pilates and Gyrotonic there. The studio itself is a lovely airy room on the upper floor of a building set in a park. Always a lovely experience to go there!

I grew up in India, immersed in the sounds and smells of that crazy wonderful country that was, and will always be, my first home. But it took living in Sydney, my now forever-home, to fall in love with this kind of yoga. Restful, warm, squishy, kind, inclusive yoga. I did my initial Restorative Yoga training with Mitch Gibson and went on to complete 200 hour Hatha and 50 hour intense yin training modules. I teach yoga for the mind and from the heart, and the benefits the body receives are simply a huge added bonus for me! Through these classes I hope you fall in love with yourself, knowing that...

Some years ago I heard a fellow say he had been practicing yoga for 30 years and he finally understood why. And now, 30+ years into my own practice, I do too. It’s because after all this stretching, strengthening, breathing, studying, chanting, meditating and just paying attention, I’m feeling quite well. I work a physically-demanding day job and take no medications. Now well past 60, I give a lot of credit to yoga.
See, yoga’s not just stretching. There’s way more to it. There’s this magic, alchemical, mysterious thing that happens when we get on the mat ...

My style of teaching is about centring inclusivity and accessibility - I can''t touch my toes and probably never will, which is perfectly fine. I am Indian by birth and was raised in a western society for most of my life; yoga has been a way to reconnect with my roots and learn more about the mind-body connection. My yoga training has been on the more traditional side and I aim to respect tradition while integrating modern approaches in my classes. Off the mat I am a worker rights advocate, an environmentalist, and a dedicated cat mum...
