Ingrid Shaw
Pilates, GYROTONIC®, Yamuna Foot Fitness
Having had a successful career as a ballet and contemporary dancer in Europe Ingrid was introduced to Pilates as a way in which dancers were managing and rehabilitating from injury. When she returned to Australia in 1990 she underwent comprehensive Pilates training and later combined with a Physiotherapist – Nicole Vass - to set up the 1st Physiotherapy/Pilates practice and the 5th Pilates studio in Sydney. Ingrid successfully ran the Pilates side of this business for over 20 years comprising 2 big studios, one in Neutral Bay and one at the McDonald College of Performing Arts in North Strathfield.
Ingrid continued to keep her hand in the dance world teaching Pilates to and assisting with the rehabilitation of the dancers of the Sydney Dance Company and their pre professional year for many years.
Ingrid’s vision has always been about creating an oasis from the busyness of life’s bustle, where people can come and do safe, effective movement/ exercise to address the needs of their bodies (and minds) in a non-competitive and caring atmosphere.
In 2002 Ingrid was introduced to The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM ® which piqued her interest. She started training in Gyrotonic in 2013, eventually selling her large Pilates business in 2015 to explore more training in the Gyrotonic System.
Out of this transition emerged “Ingrid Shaw Pilates offering GYROTONIC® training” which has thrived over the past decade, specialising in individually tailored Pilates and Gyrotonic sessions. It is one of only a handful of studios offering Gyrotonic training in Sydney, however awareness of this remarkable movement System is growing and more teachers are training every year in Sydney and around Australia.
Along the way Ingrid has also completed the Yamuna Foot Fitness certification as well as level 1 Foot Mobilisation Technique and has a keen interest in how important our feet are to the health and balance of the rest of our bodies. Ingrid is also certified in Pre and Post Natal exercise as well as Women’s Health through the Centre for Women’s Fitness, USA. Ingrid has a special interest in these areas as she has 4 children of her own and a clientele that crosses all generations and stages of life.
Ingrid has also served as Vice President and council member of the national Pilates Association as well as having run the continuing education for the Association for many years.
Ingrid enjoys helping people rehabilitate from injury and to regain their healthy, pain free and able body.
